Consciousness & Creation

Everything we perceive is a product of consciousness.  The things we see are refined not just by individual conscious experiences, but by generations of them, shaping our collective creative potential.  This interplay between the products of consciousness becomes a representation of the collective consciousness itself.

All human creation arises from our capacity for conscious experience.  Things emerge into consciousness and then manifest in the world. Consciousness is like an inner expanse, a bottomless ocean within our minds, responsible for the core of human experience. It's a filter that governs how we consume (ingesting complex combinations of sensory data), express (releasing concoctions of emotional data), and create (offering ourselves as a medium to an idea, equipped with the skills for its fruition).

Ideas are like the sentient inhabitants of this conscious ocean.  To paraphrase David Lynch, consciousness is the ocean, and ideas are the fish. This expanse has an uncertain depth; the deeper you go, the more unique and special the fish you find.  So, to catch the big fish, you must venture deeper.

Consider emotions as a starting point.  Complete surrender towards an emotion demands separation from the clutter of thought, anchoring you in the present moment through that emotion's specific lens.  The observer finds themselves in a tranquil state of introspection.

Let's explore substances, diving a little deeper into this ocean. Each substance, particularly those with psychoactive elements, has its own influence.  Coffee, for example, often triggers a thought pattern in me, decomposing matter into its philosophical parts. This essay's idea, for instance, was conceived under the influence of coffee.  Similarly, Sigmund Freud on coke was availed to a certain specific set of ideas because of his indulgence with coke.

Psychedelics offer the deepest, most direct plunge into this ocean. They can make you feel as though you've experienced something more real than reality itself, a testament to the depth of consciousness they can unlock.  They can also foster a connection to a higher self, and through ego death, a sense of proximity to the collective consciousness.

Ultimately it's Meditation, this is what it's about: starting with individual conscious experience and expanding it to the collective. This is where meditation excels. Daily practice takes the self deeper into consciousness with each session, offering mystical experiences and bridging the gap between the unconscious, the conscious, and the collective consciousness.  Meditation,  provides a framework, a vocabulary if you will, to articulate the often abstract and ineffable nature of these deep dives into the self. It allows us to decode the ingrained, generational patterns—the virtue structure—of our being, revealing the underlying commonality that connects our individual consciousness to the broader human experience, and even, perhaps, to the consciousness inherent in all matter.
